Need Caption.       Mesmerizing, riveting, enlightening and informative.       Those are just a few of the adjectives that come close to describing the Women’s History Tea program held on Mary 8 at the Fremont Adult School.       The event offered a glimpse into the extraordinary lives of Eleanor Roosevelt and Sojourner Truth.   The script, written and directed by AAUW Fremont Branch member Sandy Cashmark, had attendees feeling as though they really did know Eleanor and Sojourner   One could not help admire these two remarkable women for their contributions to humanity.       Pictures of Eleanor and Sojourner were displayed on a large screen with the technical assistance of Judy Huff.  Deirdre Finnegan played the young Eleanor.   The mature Eleanor, first lady, was portrayed by Mary Ann Mackey.   Paul Rea played the part of FDR and the Admiral.   The narrators were Kathy Garfinkle, Karis Griffin and Sandy Cashmark.       The story of Sojourner Truth captivated the audience especially when Karis Griffith, as Sojourner, delivered her unforgettable Ain’t I a Woman speech.   Bernadette Galleguillos portrayed Sojourner’s mother and was also the narrator for this story of courage and truth that moved many to tears.       Prior to the performance, attendees sat amidst beautifully appointed tables adorned with colorful garlands of spring flowers.  Thanks to JoAnn Houk who provided the lovely floral centerpieces.  Attendees were treated to a sumptuous tea and luncheon consisting of quiche, scones, fruit, and assorted finger sandwiches prepared by our AAUW members.       Following the program, four baskets, assembled and donated by our members, were raffled with the proceeds going to Tech Trek.       This wonderful event could not have been executed without the dedication and effort of so many members of our branch.  The decorations, publicity, reservations, name tags, program, food and entertainment involved many hours of planning and preparation.       Thanks to all who helped with the arranging and serving of the endless plates of delicious goodies.  Our table servers and hostesses were diligent in seeing that everyone had enough to eat and drink.  Special words of praise go to those who helped in the clean-up and washing of the plates and cups.  We are grateful to our committee and our members for volunteering their efforts to make this event a success.  We thank those who came out to celebrate Women’s History and support local scholarships.
