The Hot Air Balloons Carrying the AAUW Logo Epitomize the Direction
Our Branch Will Continue to Take - Always Upward. |
Our Annual Installation Dinner
on Tuesday evening, June 8 at Papillon in Fremont was a feast for
the palate and the spirit.
Some 46 members were
in attendance to enthusiastically vote on and welcome the new executive
presidential team for the next two years, and to bid farewell to a few
of the members who are stepping down. New presidential team members are:
Jo Szeto, Sara Hinkel, Shirley Gilbert and returning from last year
Jeanne Delp, Carolyn Hedgecock and RoseMarie Everett.
Stepping down after
many years of service are Mary Lynn Pelican and Kathy Garfinkle.
Randy Fewel and Genevieve Angelides have agreed to stay on as mentors to the team.
And both Mary Lynn and Kathy consented to mentor new presidential team members.
Genevieve and Mary Lynn
were awarded certificates for their many contributions to AAUW this year.
Peter Angelides, Genevieve’s husband, accepted the reward on behalf
of his wife who is recovering from injuries due to an auto accident.
Sandy Cashmark received
special recognition from the branch this year for her outstanding
contributions with regard to the Women’s History Tea in May. She
worked very hard to research and write scripts for Eleanor Roosevelt
and Sojourner Truth that helped make the program such an unqualified
and memorable success.
Aside from AAUW Fremont
Branch business, members saw a slide show of branch activities throughout
the year, had a fabulous meal, participated in a raffle for gift baskets
and ended the evening with dessert and a rousing champagne toast in
honor of the new year and the new leadership.
As committee chair,
there are so many people to thank for staging such an elegant and
well-received evening. The five people on our committee -- Mary Lynn Pelican,
Kathy Garfinkle, Shirley Gilbert and Randy Fewel and myself – worked
well together and made this a labor of love. Our thanks to those
who donated gift baskets – Suzanne Miller, Kathy Garfinkle and
Shirley Gilbert.
Ed Huff created the
colorful hot air balloon with our AAUW logo that epitomizes the direction
our branch will continue to take – up, up, up. Ed, a retired graphic
artist and the husband of Judy Huff, has created so many original
flyers, programs, banners and name tags for our branch.
Kudos go to Randy
Fewel who set up the slide program and Mary Lynn for providing the
excellent pictures of every event taking place over the course of the year.
And a special thanks
to all the members present. When you listened to the happy and contented
chatter throughout the evening you realize how lucky we are to have such a great branch. |
Here are some
Pictures
of the proceedings. |
