The Fremont Niles Rotary Club has donated
$2,000 to AAUW’s Three Cups of Tea program to help fund a venue for
the visit of author Greg Mortenson when he comes to Fremont on March 3, 2009.
”I’m so pleased with this donation,“ said Genevieve
Angelides, chair of the project, ”and it will be so helpful in finding
a suitable location so that the Fremont community can be delighted by Greg Mortenson’s
presentation and insights on his book.“
Another very welcome donation
came from Fremont’s Bank of the West (Mowry Avenue) according to
Caroline Johnston, treasurer of the Three Cups of Tea program.
Caroline explains that AAUW has had our 501C(3) scholarship account
with the bank for many years. ”The bank has agreed,“
said Caroline, ”that this is a worthy cause and they have consented
to process all the pennies free of charge, something we really appreciate.“
The AAUW team will be working with Bank Manager Tak Yamamoto to process the coins.
The pennies will be collected
every Friday from the classrooms and be transferred to the 30-pound
bags the bank provides. Each 29-32 lbs of pennies equals
about $50.00. Apparently this varies because of the difference
in the weight of new and old pennies. The bank has ordered
300 bags for the Pennies for Peace program that started early in October
and goes until Thanksgiving week.
Raley’s of Fremont on Paseo Padre
will allow us to use their coin counters as well free of charge.
They are absorbing the cost of 0.089 percent on each dollar.
This is an alternate method that we can use and we’ll be working with
Manager John Suyadam.
Another Donor, Office Max at
the HUB, will give us 50 percent off on each full-service project for this
project only.
Thanks go out to these organizations
for helping with this exciting cause. |
